Water recovery in the Himalayas

water recovery in the Himalaya

Sustainability has become an increasingly hot topic in the fashion sector in recent years, providing a positive response to media reporting on mass production, the use of chemicals and more. In general, the fashion sector is keen to change these negative views. Many small businesses, including Tuinch, are constantly looking for ways to produce their clothing sustainably. Indeed, Tuinch’s unique pieces are manufactured with the greatest care and respect for the environment.

On top of the world

The Himalayan mountains, where Tuinch’s high-quality raw materials are sourced, are the world’s highest mountains: they really are on top of the world, both because of their altitude and because they stretch across several countries. These mountains are home to several different populations, including nomads.

The mountains are also home to many rivers and glaciers, with the former being formed by the melting water of the latter. Of course, global warming is harming the glaciers in the Himalayas: because of the changing temperatures, glacier ice is melting much faster. This is disastrous for agriculture, livestock and the production of cashmere.

With Tuinch’s help, the Tibetan nomads have found a solution to the issue of water shortages.

Water recovery

After the nomads have combed their goats, the fibres have to be washed to remove any dirt. It goes without saying that washing these coats requires a lot of water. A water shortage would thus inevitably threaten the production of cashmere wool.

To protect this age-old tradition, Tuinch came up with a sustainable way to ensure production of these unique pieces. The water used to wash and rinse the fibres is filtered and purified in Tuinch’s workshop. As a result, the water can be used again and again and the wool’s excellent quality is guaranteed. With the recovery of the water, Tuinch has provided a sustainable response to the impending water shortage.

Tuinch is not just a brand for fashionistas who love haute couture: it also appeals to people who care about the environment. Buying a cashmere garment from Tuinch will enhance your wardrobe while supporting the age-old craft of the Tibetan nomads in the Himalayan highlands.
